Happy New Year! We made it through to This year!

We still have some rough passages to go through but at least we see the brightness that guides us and the dark does not frighten us. For the Cherokee, dark and light were both a necessary part of life. There are some who live in darkness, deep in the oceans. There are some whose eyes have been injured. There are others who have ceremony to give thanks for the light and dark.

Each half of the year had things that we did, things in the light and things in the dark. (This was not connected to the White man's view of light as good and dark as evil.) There are diseases where parts of your body turn white before they die and fall off. There are are others where our healthy brown/tan skin protects us.

I've been following the news as far as what our people are doing and all native people are doing. one thing I was happy to hear is that our Cherokee Freedmen have been given their recognition back. Some have Cherokee blood, some don't. Cherokee were happy to accept them as slaves and we should be just as happy to accept them as freedman and women now that slavery has ended. Many have unrecognized Cherokee blood, but these days with the genetic tests we can find information that was not available to us in the past.

Well here we all are! Welcome home!

Walk in Harmony,
